PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2006 – Present | LDA Architects, San Francisco, CA
Senior Architect
Working for a small office, Philip was able to be involved in a diversity of
projects that include an urban hotel renovation, a university guesthouse, an
equestrian barn/clubhouse, a fire station apparatus building, and a multi-family
housing project. He also initiated a marketing program to introduce the firm
to commercial realtors and design-build contractors.
2004 – 2006 | Shah Kawasaki Architects, Oakland, CA
Senior Architect
As a senior architect working on a Fumihiko Maki designed art museum in St.
Louis, Philip managed project consultants and was the primary contact with the
design architects in Tokyo, Japan during the construction documents phase. He
became project architect during contract administration. The Sam Fox School
of Design and Visual Arts project is a two building addition to the design arts
complex at Washington University. The new buildings add an art museum, a library,
art studios, and classrooms.
2002 - 2004 | Freelance Architect, San Francisco, CA
Designer and Project Architect
Philip worked as project architect on a number of commercial projects in the
Bay Area. These projects include a high-rise condominium in San Francisco, a
seven story building addition in Berkeley, and a three thousand square foot
tenant improvement in Downtown San Francisco. His design and technical skills
allow him to lead the design, management, and production phases of projects
for clients efficiently and effectively.
1999 - 2001 | PortfolioCorner, Inc., San Francisco, CA
Director of Product Management
In charge of Front-Office products for PortfolioCorner, Philip developed web-based
solutions to help financial professionals expand their client base through the
Internet. His responsibilities included overseeing development of product features,
developing the process of implementing products online, setting direction for
web site content, increasing web site traffic through advertising and PR, and
acquiring clients through direct mail efforts. | PortfolioCorner, Inc. provides

1990 - 1999 | Studios Architecture, San Francisco, CA
Senior Designer and Project Manager, named Associate in 1997
In his career as an architect, Philip delivered many successful projects for
clients such as E*Trade Group, 3Com Corporation, and Andersen Consulting. His
projects included office tenant improvements, demonstration centers, R&D
facilities, manufacturing facilities, corporate campuses, and an entertainment
complex. In most projects, his role involved working with clients to develop
design vision and functional solutions, manage a team of consultants and engineers,

Founder and Partner
Philip Luo and his partner, Kal Deutsch, formed a consulting team to help small
companies use the Internet to achieve their business objectives. Their projects
include an online dining reservations system for Mountain Winery in Saratoga,
product catalog site for a construction supply company, and marketing websites
for a law firm, a medical group, a non-profit art support group, and a real
estate referral startup.
1999 - 2004 | Storybook Online Network [www.storybookonline.net]
Creator and Publisher
As publisher of Storybook Online, Philip created a self-sustaining website that
creates, develops, and disseminates original short stories for children. Children
around the world collaborate online to write stories together. Stories are presented
as written, illustrated, animated, and audio presentations. | Storybook Online
Network is a storytelling community for children.

Instructor (Internet and Computer Animation)
As an instructor for the after-school program at John Muir Middle School, Philip
taught 6th Grade students to make their own games and movies using Macromedia
Flash. In this class, students also learned to use the Internet as a research
tool while playing games that required them to find answers online. Games included
trivia challenges, dinosaur hunts, and other web quests.
